NO-HASSLE TRAILER HITCH INSTALLATION NEAR YOU
Does Walmart Install Trailer Hitches?
No. Walmart does not install trailer hitches in-store or through their home services. You can buy a hitch there, but they won’t install it. We can install it for you at CPW Truck Stuff in Tinley Park.
Does U-Haul Install Trailer Hitches?
Yes—with exceptions. U-Haul installs trailer hitches, but only at select larger locations. Many smaller or third-party U-Haul locations do not offer hitch installation services.
A trailer hitch allows you to tow many types of equipment. The most common type is the receiver hitch, but others include bumper hitches, front-mount hitches, weight-distribution hitches, 5th-wheel hitches, and gooseneck hitches. Receiver hitches come in 5 classes based on weight capacity and receiver opening size.
With a receiver hitch, you can use accessories such as bike racks, cargo carriers, and ball mounts. You can also tow boats, UTVs, or trailers. We carry top towing brands including Reese, Curt, B&W, and Hidden Hitch.
Some vehicles come with factory tow packages (alternators, coolers, wiring). If yours doesn’t, adding a hitch is a smart upgrade.
Towing & Trailer Installation Experts
To safely tow, you’ll need components like a trailer ball, ball mount, wiring, and safety chains. Understanding weight ratings ensures proper trailer control and reduces risk.
Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR)
The maximum allowable weight of your tow vehicle and trailer combined. Includes cargo, passengers, and equipment.
Gross Trailer Weight (GTW)
The total weight of your fully loaded trailer. Weigh it on a truck scale or estimate based on trailer and cargo weight.
Tongue Weight
Tongue weight should typically be 10–15% of your total GTW. Proper tongue weight improves control and prevents sway.
Hitch Class Ratings

- Class III – up to 5,000 lbs (campers, boats)
